“Demon in a Bottle!”: 40% Off Iron Man

Pre-order February’s Iron Man By Michelinie, Layton and Romita Jr Omnibus from Forbiddenplanet.co.uk before Wednesday 12th September 2012, and get a 40% discount off the RRP.

Iron Man #150

Normally £75, the saving brings the 944-page book down to just £45. This is only Cover A, but Cover B is available from just £50.25; Forbiddenplanet.com has it for £51.74 each (though they often get damaged in the post from this particular supplier) – while Amazon UK hasn’t even got it listed yet!

Here’s the blurb:

“Up-and-coming talents David Michelinie, Bob Layton and John Romita Jr. joined forces to take on Marvel’s Golden Avenger in 1978 – and captured lighting in a bottle! Now, their history-making first run is collected in one massive volume! From Tony Stark’s taboo-shattering struggle with alcoholism to Iron Man’s legendary clash with Dr. Doom during King Arthur’s time, this one’s got it all – including Justin Hammer’s introduction; a brutal battle against the Hulk; the menaces of Madame Masque, the Melter, Blizzard, Whiplash, the Dreadnoughts, the Titanium Man and more; and the debut of Tony’s outer-space and stealth armours!”

Collecting Iron Man #115- 157, the omnibus features the ground-breaking Demon in a Bottle storyline, which inspired the movie, Iron Man 2. As Bethany Cabe says:

“Can’t you see you’re becoming your own worst enemy? And you’re trying to kill that enemy with a bottle…”

I’m sure this one will be popular…

“Deathwatch!”: 40% off Man-Thing!

Calling all fans of classic horror! Get to forbiddenplanet.co.uk before Wednesday 2nd May 2012 to get 40% off October’s Man-Thing omnibus.

Cover art by Frank Brunner

Here’s the blurb:

“Neither wholly plant nor animal, neither entirely self-aware nor totally non-sentient, the creature called the Man-Thing is unique, unchanging and alone — but none who encounter him can ever be the same again. Empathic by nature and drawn to fight evil, his shambling visage inspires fear — and whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing’s touch. Whether danger rises from the swamp or the city, the past or the future, outer space or the human soul, the Man-Thing awaits!”

The 1192-page HC has an RRP of £95, but if you pre-order now, it’ll cost just £57. The book is set to collect Astonishing Tales (1970) #12-13; Fear #11-18, and material from #10 and #19; Man-Thing (1974) #1-22, Giant-Size Man-Thing #1-3 and material from #4-5, Incredible Hulk (1968) #197-198; Marvel Team-Up (1972) #68; Marvel Two-In-One #43; Man-Thing (1979) #1-11; Dr. Strange (1974) #41; and material from Savage Tales (1971) #1, Monsters Unleashed #5 and #8-9, and Rampaging Hulk (1977) #7.

Cover art by Ariel Olivetti

The offer only applies to the Frank Brunner cover; the variant – by Ariel Olivetti – can be pre-ordered from fp.co.uk for £63.65.

…And neither Amazon nor forbiddenplanet.com has it listed!

The book is written by Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, Steve Gerber, Marv Wolfman, Tony Isabella, Ralph Macchio, Len Wein, Chris Claremont, Michael Fleisher, Doug McKenzie and JM DeMatteis, while art is supplied by Gray Morrow, John Buscema, Rich Buckler, John Byrne, Don Perlin, Gene Colan, Jim Starlin, Val Mayerik, Mike Ploog, Alfredo Alcala, Vicente Alcazar, Rico Rival, Ed Hannigan, Ron Wilson, Jim Mooney, Tom Sutton, Larry Hama and Pat Broderick.

Steve Gerber’s final Man-Thing tale is set for print June- August as The Infernal Man-Thing.

40% Off Marvel Zombies’ ‘Zomnibus!’

Get over to forbiddenplanet.co.uk to save 40% on September 2012’s Marvel Zomnibus – the omnibus filled with zombie goodness!

The 1200-page HC has an RRP of £95, but if you pre-order before Wednesday 4th April 2012 at fp.co.uk, you’ll pay just £57, plus £1 postage.

The book – by a plethora of talent, including Mark Millar, Greg Land, Robert Kirkman and Kev Walker – collects Marvel Zombies: Dead Days, Marvel Apes: Prime Eight, Marvel Zombies: Evil Evolution, Ultimate Fantastic Four #21-23 and #30-32, Marvel Zombies #1-5, Black Panther (2005) #28-30, Marvel Zombies 2 #1-5, Marvel Zombies Return #1-5, Marvel Zombies 3 #1-5, Marvel Zombies 4 #1-4, Marvel Zombies 5 #1-5, and Marvel Zombies Supreme  #1-5.

Cover art by Greg Land

Zombies are really popular right now, probably due to the success of The Walking Dead, also written by Kirkman, so this ‘Zomnibus’ is bound to fly off shelves. Artist, Sean Phillips is currently working alongside Ed Brubaker on the rave-reviewed Fatale.

Fatale

After the 40% offer ends, it’s likely to rise to about £64 on fp.co.uk, while amazon.co.uk have it for the terrible price of £78.68.

The New Avengers omnibus and Stephen King’s The Stand are both set for release at the same time as the Zomnibus – so September definitely won’t be kind to your wallet!

“First Blood”: 40% Off Operation Zero Tolerance!

Go to forbiddenplanet.co.uk before Wednesday 14th March to get 40% off August’s X-Men: Zero Tolerance HC.

This brings the price down from £55.99 to just £33.59.

At 640 pages, the book collects Generation X #26-31, X-Force #67-70, X-Men #65-70, Uncanny X-Men #346, Wolverine #115-118, Cable #45-47 and X-Man #30, with a cover by Francis Leinil Yu. Writers include Scott Lobdell, Steve Seagle and Terry Kavanagh, with artists like Joe Bennett, Carlos Pacheco and Salvador Larroca.

Here’s the blurb for the 1990s tale:

A rogue faction of the U.S. government, backed by powerful international forces and led by the man known only as Bastion, is about to launch a massive strike against the X-Men with one goal: the extermination of the entire mutant race. With Jubilee and Professor X captives, the X-Mansion overrun and Prime Sentinels darkening the skies, the X-Men, X-Force and Generation X must fight a war on many fronts. And it’s a war they’re losing. This is the X-Men’s darkest hour.

I’m really excited by this release; its reprint in the UK line, Essential X-Men, was being published as I was just getting into X-Men comics, right after the Onslaught saga.

Forbiddenplanet.com hasn’t got the book listed yet, but Amazon.co.uk has it at a pre-order price of £35.61.

It’s a big tome, but nobody seems to know if it’s officially an omnibus or just a Hardcover collection like The Invincible Iron Man books. Either way, it’s worth letting you know about it!

Secret Warriors available for pre-order!

Forbidden Planet.co.uk has just made the Secret Warriors omnibus available for pre-order.

Though the book has an RRP of £75, you can buy it from fp.co.uk for just £49.01.

Amazon.co.uk also has the 904-page HC for £49.01. Which is pretty wierd.

My advice would be to wait maybe just for a week, as fp.co.uk normally offer these £75 books with a 40% discount for two weeks only – bringing it down to £45 – as part of their ‘STOP THE PRESS!’ offer. I reckon next week’s graphic novel newsletter wil include the deal, as the latest one was for The Incredible Hulk: Past Perfect – which looks really cool!

Here’s the synopsis for the Secret Warriors omnibus:

Former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury and his newly minted team of Secret Warriors uncover a conspiracy that reaches from the Oval Office to Japan — and even beyond death. When a shadow war breaks out between Leviathan and Hydra, it’s up to Fury and his Warriors to take them both out.

The reconstituted Howling Commandos join Fury’s ranks, but tragedy waits in the wings as the conflict blossoms into an all-out war on three fronts. As Hydra and Leviathan ready for their final strikes — on each other and the world — Fury will have to make some of the grittiest life-and-death choices of his long life!

Collecting Mighty Avengers #13 and 18, Secret Warriors #1-28, Dark Reign: The List – Secret Warriors, Siege: Secret Warriors, and material from Dark Reign: New Nation. Written By Brian Michael Bendis and Jonathan Hickman; and pencilled by Alex Maleev, Stefano Caselli, Alessandro Vitti, Gianluca Gugliotta, Mirko Colak, David Marquez and Ed McGuinness, with cover artwork by Jim Cheung.

The book is expected to be released in July 2012.

No official news from Marvel… but once again, Amazon saves the day, making several new omnibuses available for pre-order.

One’s so exciting, there’s a separate post about it, which can be found here:

https://marvelomnibus.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/new-x-men-reprint/

First off, July will see the release of Rick Remender’s Punisher omnibus, a 678-page book, with art by Jerome Opena and Tan Eng Huat. It has an RRP of £63.95, apparently, but Amazon has it for £48.37:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Punisher-Rick-Remender-Omnibus/dp/0785162135/ref=cm_lmf_tit_16_rdssss0

Punisher: The List

Alongside this, there’ll be a Secret Warriors omnibus, written by Brian Micheal Bendis and Jonathan Hickman, with art by Alex Maleev, Stefano Caselli and Alessandro Vitti. The 904-page HC also has an RRP of £63.95, with Amazon offering a 24% saving.

And that’s all we know – !

They’re not listed on ForbiddenPlanet etc., so we’ll just have to wait until the Summer to find out more.

I would caution against pre-ordering now, however, as fp.co.uk will probably offer a fantastic pre-order price soon; maybe around £40 each.

Also… It’s January. And that means January Sales!

Get over to ForbiddenPlanet.com for their fantastic winter offers, which includes two omnibuses.

Firstly, there’s Captain America by Jack Kirby et al. (collecting Tales Of Suspense #59-99, Captain America #100-113 and Not Brand Echh #3) with a cover by Ron Garney, for just £44.99:

http://forbiddenplanet.com/65881-captain-america-omnibus-volume-1-hardcover-ron-garney-cover/

Amazon, however, have the omnibus – right now, anyway – for just £42.09:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Captain-America-Omnibus-Marvel/dp/0785150781/ref=cm_lmf_tit_24

Then there’s the third – and probably final – volume of Tomb of Dracula, which collects Tomb Of Dracula Magazine #1-6, FRANKENSTEIN Monster #7-9 and Dracula Lives! #1-13, again for just £44.99:

http://forbiddenplanet.com/?q=tomb+of+dracula+omnibus+volume+3

Yep – both covers!

Amazon has it for £75… which is an awful price, frankly.

Art by Gene Colan.

Again, you need to beware of fp.com

I ordered a few omnibuses last year, including The Invincible Iron Man Volume 2 and Tomb of Dracula Volume 2… and I still haven’t received them!

Seriously.

They’re pretty notorious with their omnibuses, so there’s a bit of risk that you’ll never get your order!

Let me know if you order any of these – and if you receive them!

“Legacy”: 40% Off Ultimate Spidey!

In 2000, Marvel launched the Ultimate universe with a single comic.

That comic was Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s Ultimate Spider-man.

Cover by Joe Quesada.

The line – a modern telling of the normal MU – has expanded dramatically since, but Ultimate Spider-man has remained the constant, shocking readers with brand-new takes on the wallcrawler’s most infamous villains and storylines.

Just in time for The Amazing Spider-man movie, Marvel is releasing an omnibus collecting the first 39 (and ½!) issues of Bendis and Bagley’s modern classic, with an RRP of £75.

But if you go to ForbiddenPlanet.co.uk before Wednesday 4th January 2012, you can save 40%, bringing the price down to just £45!

Just go here.

Though this offer only applies to one of two covers, the other can be found for just £50.25.

The 1000-page book is due for release in June, and sees Peter Parker gain his webslinging abilities and battle the Green Goblin, Electro, the Kingpin, Venom and many more.

Art by Mark Bagley.

As I’ve been on the lookout for those early issues in the Hardcover format, I’m really looking forward to this omnibus.

Let me know if you’ll be picking it up below.

Until Wednesday 7th December 2011, forbiddenplanet.co.uk is offering May 2012’s Avengers: The Crossing Omnibus at a 40% discount!

Mike Deodato Cover

In this timeline-juggling 1990s story, Kang the Conqueror sets the Avengers against Force Works to win a prize no one can imagine. It’s packed full of your favourite heroes, including Iron Man, War Machine, Quicksilver, Hercules, the Vision, Scarlet Witch, Crystal and Hawkeye.

Two covers will be available – with an estimated arrival date of 2nd May 2012 – by Patrick Scherberger and Mike Deodato; the latter of which is on said offer until this 7th December. Just go here:

http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&products_id=67728

Patrick Scherberger Cover

With an RRP of £75, you can get it for just £45. The Scherberger cover is available for £50.25 – I think the Deodato cover will rise to this price when the offer ends.

Iorn Man #324.

The 792-page omnibus collects Avengers (1963) #390-395, Avengers: The Crossing, Avengers: Timeslide, Iron Man (1968) #319-325, Force Works #16-22, War Machine (1994) #20-25 and Age Of Innocence: The Rebirth Of Iron Man, as written by Bob Harras, Terry Kavanagh, Ben Raab, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.

Amazon.co.uk has the HC on pre-order for £64.11.

“O, Bitter Victory!”: 40% off Amazing Spider-man!

Art for ASM #49 by John Romita.

Stan Lee and John Romita’s run on Amazing Spider-man is a legendary must-read. And from April 2012, you can get ASM #39- 67, Annual #3- 5, Spectacular Spider-man Magazine (1968) #1- 2, and material from Not Brand Echh #2, 6 and 11 in a 968- page omnibus.

With an RRP of £75, the HC also features the art of Don Heck, Larry Lieber, Jim Mooney and Marie Severin, with alternate covers by Romita and Humberto Ramos.

And until Wednesday 23rd November, the Romita cover is available from forbiddenplanet.co.uk for just £45, a saving of 40%! You can get your copy here:

http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&products_id=67242

The Humberto Ramos cover – a homage to ASM #39 – can be pre-ordered from fp.co.uk for £50.25; the Romita cover is expected to  increase to this price once the promotion is over.

While Amazon.co.uk hasn’t even listed it yet, forbiddenplanet.com has the two covers for £51.74 each.

Though it’s a continuation of 2007’s first ASM omnibus – with the art of Steve Ditko – this second hardcover can be read in isolation, with such milestone issues as “How Green Was My Goblin!” – in which the Green Goblin’s true identity is first revealed – “The Sinister Shocker!” (which introduces one of my favourite villains) and “Spider-man No More!” The latter, in ASM #50, introduced the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk, a major criminal in the Marvel Universe, and partly inspired the film, Spider-man 2.

Cover art by John Romita.

Personally, it includes some of my favourite issues, so I will definitely have the omnibus in pride of place.  One of the first Spider-man comic storylines I remember is, in fact, from ASM #48- 49, a grim but thrilling tale of a very ill Spider-man facing off against Kraven the Hunter and the new (-ish) Vulture, Brackie Drago.

Coming July 2012...

Of course, the omnibus comes just in time for the release of The Amazing Spider-man film in July 2012, a reboot starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans.

Andrew Garfiled on set with Emma Stone.
